
Fears and phobias can develop, when relatively safe situations, come to be perceived by the subconscious mind, as 'highly dangerous' and trigger a stress or fear response. Hypnotherapy and NLP techniques can recondition memories of bad experiences and reset the associated alarm systems. By experiencing a carefully orchestrated, hypnotic 'rehearsal', whilst you remain in a comfortable, calm, safe and relaxed state, It is possible to desensitise your learned response to the situation you are fearful of. The amygdala (where the subconscious mind processes fearful and threatening stimuli), learns that the situation you normally react to with fear and anxiety, no longer appears to be a threat and so it stops the automated activation of fight or flight hormones in response to the original trigger.
Common Fears or phobias:
Fear of nausea or vomiting - Emetophobia.
Fear of pain.
Fear of hospitals/anaesthetic/surgery.
Fear of needles.
Fear of heights.
Fear of flying.
Fear of driving.
Exam or test nerves.
Fear of public speaking.
Social phobia/anxiety.
Most simple phobias are cleared in approximately four sessions.
This obviously depends on the severity of the learned fear or phobia, the extent of previous associated memories/ experiences and other contributing factors such as generalised anxiety disorders, or other conditions that require extra support.
